H.E. LINGLINGAY F. LACANLALEAmbassador Linglingay F. Lacanlale is the new Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand. She arrived on 1 June 2010 from Vienna where she was the Philippines’ Ambassador to Austria. She was also the non-resident Ambassador to Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia, and Philippine Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN Office in Vienna (UNOV), and the Preparatory Commission to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT ) from June 2006 up to May 2010.
Ambassador Lacanlale served in different capacities in the Philippine Foreign Service. From 1985 to 1986, she was Second Secretary then First Secretary at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York. From 1986 to 1993 she was First Secretary and Consul General then Counsellor and Consul General at the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, Austria, and alternate Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Vienna. From 1997 to 1999, she was assigned to the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York as Deputy Permanent Representative and Minister. And from 1999 up to 2003, she was the Consul General at the Philippine Consulate General in New York.
Ambassador Lacanlale began her career in the Department of Foreign Affairs as Principal Assistant at the ASEAN National Coordinating Agency of the Philippines (1979-1980), eventually rising from the ranks to become Acting Chief of the American Economic Affairs Division (1981-1983), and later Acting Director of the Economic, Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs at the Office of United Nations and Other International Organizations (1983-1985). From 1994 to1997, following her return from her foreign assignment in Austria, she served as Chief of Staff of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Until her appointment as Philippine Ambassador to Austria, Ambassador Lacanlale concurrently served as Chief of Protocol and Presidential Assistant for Foreign Affairs in the Office of the President from November 2003 to January 2006. She is a recipient of the Presidential Award.
Ambassador Lacanlale earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Service from the University of the Philippines, where she was a consistent College Scholar. She holds a Masters Degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, where she became the recipient of an Occidental College Fellowship and a Phi Beta Kappa International Scholarship.
Ambassador Lacanlale was born in Pasay City, Philippines, on 17 July 1948. She is married to Mr. Agerico O. Lacanlale. They have four children.
