avr asean nite address Thai Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon pays an introductory call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at Malacanang Palace on 12 Apr. 2005. During the call, FM Kantathi conveyed to President Arroyo Thailand's commitment to strengthening its already close and cordial relations with the Philippines. FM Kantathi was on an official visit to the Philippines, following his participation at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Retreat in Cebu on 10-12 April. He replaced Surakiart Sathirathai as Thai foreign minister.


Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo speaks before Filipino community leaders and special guests at a dinner hosted by Ambassador  Rodriguez at the Chancery on 4 Mar. 2005. Secretary Romulo thanked the Filipino community for the support they had extended to the people of Quezon province whose lives were ravaged by typhoon Nanmadol. He urged them to continue supporting President Arroyo's programs, and to be exemplary Filipino citizens abroad. Secretary Romulo was on an official visit to Thailand.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo discusses bilateral issues with Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra on 4 Mar. 2005. Premier Thaksin conveyed in particular his gratitude for the Philippines' assistance  in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster of 26 December 2004. The Philippines had provided a 20-man forensic team, donated 500 metal caskets, and supported the Thai proposal to strengthen the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center as a regional early warning center.


Former President Fidel V. Ramos graced the 15 Jul. 2005 breakfast hosted by Ambassador Rodriguez at the Embassy chancery for leaders and members of the Filipino community in Thailand. President Ramos was in town for the week-long 14th Triennial Conference of the International Association of University Presidents, in which he was one of the guest speakers. President Ramos also paid a courtesy call on Thai Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon during his stay in the country.



Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jose Brillantes (left) awarded a certificate of recognition to Ryndon Leonard Claver in Karon, Phuket on 30 Jan 2005, for the latter's heroic efforts during the tsunami disaster. Ambassador Rodriguez was also on hand for the awarding. Mr. Claver voluntarily provided food and supplies to more than 100 people stranded on a hill following the disaster.
