PRESIDENT ARROYO IN THAILAND FOR ASEAN SUMMITS

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo headed the Philippine delegation to the 14th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits hosted by Thailand earlier this year. The Philippine President first went to Hua Hin, a famous beach resort town some 200 kilometers from Bangkok, to attend the 14th ASEAN Summit held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Cha-am, Petchaburi Province on February 27 – March 1. During the Summit, she met with leaders of the nine other ASEAN countries, to discuss and exchange views on how the regional organization is to move forward, especially with the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter in December 2008.[Read more...]
HEALTH SECRETARY FRANCISCO DUQUE CHAIRS ASEAN + 3 SPECIAL HEALTH MINISTERS' MEETING ON INFLUENZA A (H1N1), BANGKOK, 7-8 MAY 2009
Philippine Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III was recently in Bangkok to chair the ASEAN+3 Special Health Ministers Meeting on Influenza A (H1N1). The meeting was held at the Dusit Thani Hotel on 7-8 May 2009.
During the meeting, ASEAN member countries adopted collective regional measures to address the effect of the H1N1 virus. ASEAN initiatives have likewise solicited the full support of its Dialogue Partners - China, Japan and Korea. [Read more...]

COMMEMORATION OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC TIES BETWEEN THE PHILIPPINES AND THAILAND, 3-10 JULY 2009
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand, the Philippine Embassy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Filipino community, will be organizing a weeklong array of cultural activities from 3-10 July 2009.
The opening ceremony will be on July 3, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) and invitees include H.E. Kasit Piromya, Thai Foreign Minister, officials of the Thai government, representatives from the Diplomatic Corps and international organizations, and the Filipino community. [Read more...]

FILIPINOS IN SOUTHERN THAILAND AND BANGKOK REGISTER FOR OVERSEAS ABSENTEE VOTING
Filipinos in Songkhla, Had Yai and neighboring provinces in Southern Thailand trooped to a local hotel in Songkhla on Friday, 8 May 2009, to register for Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV).
At the end of the one-day registration, the Mobile Consular Team which conducted the OAV registration tallied a total of sixty-four (64) new OAV registrants. First Secretary and Consul General Edgar Badajos, who led the mobile consular team, described the result as “a very positive development and an indication of the high level of interest among Filipinos in Thailand, particularly in the South, on political developments back home.” There are approximately one-hundred Filipinos in Thailand’s co-called “deep south,” many of whom are working as teachers.[Read more...]

Embassy personnel visits Filipinos in Southern Thailand: Members of the Filipino community in Southern Thailand, led by the Organization of Filipino Educators in the South of Thailand (OFEST), were in high spirits as they pose with Consul General Edgar Badajos and other Philippine Embassy personnel during OFEST's sports fest, dubbed "Siglakas 09." The sports fest was held in conjuction with the visit of the Embassy's mobile consular team in the southern province of Songkhla on 16-18 April 2009.
